WANTED: Twin Stick overdrive cable for my Rambler American. The car I have
is a 1964 with 196 and T96 three speed, and overdrive. This is the cable
that hooks to the ""twin stick overdrive lever"" and then to the left side
of the transmission overdrive lever. Any help on this would be greatly
appreciated. My car can not run down the highway with the inop overdrive.

Doc is right to suggest SMS. I have purchased AMC
fabrics from them several times now.

ANother source is Original Auto Interiors in
Columnbus, MI. Do a google search for their contact
info.

I found fabric for my 66 Rambler 220 there when SMS
could not supply it.

I haven't got to the front of this thread yet, but FYI, when my brother had his Marlin done in the teal cloth/vinyl, the only vinyl they could find to match without dyeing it was a marine grade vinyl.
The guy used a close but not perfect match cloth and the marine vinyl for all the surrounds on his covers. My dad and he then installed the covers themselves taking care to work out any loose spots etc. While it is not a restoration interior it looks every bit original since front and rear seats are done that way.

It is the only one that fits the 82-83 two wheel drive cars correctly.
It has a different shifter placement then any other trans except Chevette. The Chevette has a shorter over all length.
The trans is non world class, but if in good overall condition will do fine in a driver.
It has a 4-1 first gear and your best to stay with 2:79 or higher rear axle.
3:08 in a pinch with 14" tires.
I have one in mine with 255/60/15's and 3:31 axle. Makes for a quick short first gear. Mine is behind my 95 4.0L with EFI in my 69 American and has held up fine so far.
It is coming out to be replaced with a World class 2.95 first gear trabs as soon as I can get fit enough to do it! I will be putting the AMC tailhousing onto the Ford trans to keep the same shifter placement.

You could try the bushings and mounts made with grease fittings and grooves in them. Use a full synthetic grease only. or special poly grease if you can find it. I've heard white lithium works well.

I installed a larger Addco sway bar on my Eagle and although it seems to work just fine, whenever I go over a dip there is a distinct screech from the front. I've gone back underneath and can't seem to find anything obviously wrong. If I push down on either front fender, I don't get the noise. Any ideas?

which is the correct distributor cap for the 74 AMX? The black or the blue?
I have a blue cap on mine, and have been seeing blue caps on most of the AMC's.
When I saw an NOS Distributor cap on eBay, it was black.
which is it? black or blue?

Thanks,

This trans is a non-World Class T5. It cannot be
modified for the high performance levels of the World
Class models, however, it is adequate for a 258 or
stock 304 to get better mileage and last longer due to
lower highway RPM's.

One thing to help for longevity is to avoid putting a
lot of load on it when in 5th. 5th is only for
cruising. Even if you're trying to push up a long
uphill grade it is better to downshift and let the
RPM's hum for awhile.

If you want to sell, let me know!

Jesse

Parked on Hyperion here in Los Angeles (Silverlake) was a FINE
looking car -- 69 American convert, decked out as an SC/Rambler
clone. Very nice work!

Correct A-scheme paint and hood scoop; interior was not
'correct' but a practical and sharp grey and black. Top was
down. Unknown manual trans (440 American console?). Had all
the SC/ nomenclature; on the rear blacked-out panel was proper
"SC/Rambler" on the right and "4.0 L high output" on the left.

Cragars all around and big but not too much rubber. Lower than
stock, but not scraping. All and all a really spotless, well
thought out, well executed car.

Had AMO front plate.

Sweet!

Yeah, what he said!
I'll buy one too if'n anyone has another one to spare :]
Really all I want off one is the tailhousing and shifter rod to the top plate!
If I could find one of those I could leave mine intact. so if anyone has a trashed one and is looking for a complete ready ot run AMC T-5 drop me a line. Maybe we can work a trade. Mine is in perfect working condition.
I want to maintain my shifter placement in the American when I swicth to the Z spec close ratio unit later on. I've spken with Bruce Coulter [SP?] at Modern driveline. He said he's built sevarl Z-spec world calss boxes and used the AMC tailhousings. It seems the Sunbeam Tiger guys want that combo as it puts the shifter in the Tigers original hole without cutting!
I'm Rambling now though, Percocet must be working, Bad back/neck night!
AAARRRGGGHHHHHHHHHH! I want this to be OVER NOW!

Forgot to mention.
to run the T-5 in fifth gear under load get a 5speeds.com support plate.
It helps support the gear better for less spread of the shafts.

Hang on a tick, I'm not clear what you're saying here....
The valley pan -is- the gasket. Are you trying to use both it,

A: The 3.8 had more power and was more technologically advanced than the
3.0L (which had probs with valve guides and seals) even though it was a
pushrod motor like the 3.3l (I have a '93 Grand Voyager with the 3.3L and a
good O/D auto in it. Motor runs rough, partially due to brake fluid getting
into the cyls from a bad brake booster/master and maybe a bent pushrod or
two. It STINKS on startup, but I was going to fix it for a single mom friend
of mine. Alas, she doesn't have the $$ to eefect repairs on it, so I'm
trying to resell it for the $200 I have into it. It came from Montana
originally and hasn't been transferred to here yet as it won't pass the
emission test)
