Re: [BaadAssGremlins] defroster

A heater, including defroster, was federally mandated if I recall, sort of
like seat belts starting in 68. Whether one's works or not is another
question. The photo here of my 74 Hornet Sportabout wagon for sale shows one
of the slots in upper dash Terry mentions. Rain X is a excclent product have
used it for years. Gremlin heated rear glass was available in 77-78, I am
not sure abuot 74-76, and don't think it was offered in 70-73. The heated
rear glass is the type with the metal lines in it. Other models like
Ambassador and Matador, even 73-74 Javelin had the blower motor in the rear
shelf panel. Not a effective rear defroster either and focuses only in
center of rear glass, while the types with lines clear whole glass. There
were only 56 70 AMXs made with heated rear glass, quite rare option. Usually
the northern cars owners opted for them however on larger models like Rebel,
Ambassador, Matador. We don't see too many heated rear glass down here
though. I have seen several Gremlins with a rear wiper, however, do not know
if that was a option, dealer installed or owner installed either. First
offered in Pacer in late 75 production, neat thing on Pacer, makes it look
like it is wagging it's tail at you! Yes, it is hard to drive a car with no
defroster in the winter regardless of where you are. Your body creates steam
and heat which will fog up windows, and your breath will fog up the
windshield. Paige found that out this morning when she drove Beiie the 72
Ambassador wagon to work, as I have the heater hoses rerouted under hood
until I put on a heater valve on the back of the intake, so cold drive this
morning to work. However, I would bet anyone a Lone Star Beer that she was
the only woman in North America to drive a 1972 Ambassador SST station wagon
to work on December 8th, 2006 also. Not that anyone drinks Armadillo pee
Lone Star either, but good to clean batteries.
