I think the bigger problem John is that just like the internet, everyone is a 'professional' or a 'guru' or a 'judge'. I talked to someone just today about this, as he said the sC/360 brown car that sold on ebay the other day, the first 4 paragraphs or so were taken directly off my website. I told him that is what that stuff is there for. He asked about a Hialeah Yellow 70 AMX on ebay now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-Hialeah-Yellow-AMX-1-of-12-ever-produced_W0QQitemZ4565061786QQcategoryZ5357QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Which is listed as 'one of twelve'. This was my reply: "As for the breakdown, no, there is not one. Chances are the previous owner, or whoever presented it as 1 of 12, probably got this from me thru the years. Why? I have a file on my website under "parts" called "how many are left?" which speculates, and that is all it is, speculation, about how many are left of different models. I believe that 12-20 70 AMXs are left in existence, anywhere in the world, in Hialeah Yellow. It was not a popular color for 1970. Red was. Black was not. Golden Lime was. So you take the 300-450 70 AMXs that are left, anywhere in the world in 2005, 36 years after they were made, and break it down. Say for instance the Hialeah Yellow 70 AMX is a 360, AT. Chances are it is the only one left in existence, as 836 were made with 360/AT. So once you start crunching numbers many are extremely low. Again, not scientific, but I have been going to national meets since early 1980s, documenting cars, thousands of photos, and also regionals of whihc i have founded one locally, and have about 1 of those under my belt, so have seen thousands of cars going back into when AMC was introducing the Eagle. And the numbers of these cars have continued to dwindle as I mentioned on the phone. Yes, people are restoring them NOW, however, as like any old car, as time goes on, less and less remain." Point is? Hell, don't know nor care if there is, or was one to be made. But I agree, and have preached for decades, for people not to be intimidiated by a car in better conditon that thiers might be. A bigger problem is that many of the people who might have a restored car, restored to whatever standards, look down on the people whose cars they somehow see as inferior. There is no quicker way to run someone off that have a shit attitude like that. Somehow many of these people forget they probably once bought a car that was found in a barn, or had other priorities in thei rlifes that superceded fooling with a old piece of iron. They might have forgot they too....once wore those shoes. I have seen it way too many times. Some jerkoff locally here made a snide comment abuot a member's Rebel Machine. The guy is not a overly sensitive guy, is a Golden gloves Texas boxing champ and can probably kick everyone's ass, including mine. Well, unless in a rib eating contest but can't do those no mo. But he simply quit the club, and no longer shows it except at local Mopar shows. All because of one asshole's comments. The whole hobby, no matter how much stuff you see in magazines, is in a critical situation, a combination of parts crisis, dwindling number of cars, to name a few. We need more youngsters (under 25?) buying cars, any type of AMC car. We need more volunteers. " But seriously, a NATIONAL event only draws 150 cars?? Maybe the '98 Kenosha met jaded me, but I'd expect double that number, considering local events can draw 75 cars regularly." Yes and no. The quality of the cars at the AMO is some of the highest you will find. I still want room on the showfield for non AMC powered cars, and beaters, and the Planet Houston Award has always been given out to those cars that show the most potential!
