I'll add this: the early 232 pumps are lower output pressure than the 
later 232/258 pumps.

The early pumps use a single fuel line:

     tank -> pump -> filter -> carb.

The later pumps use a return line:

                            -> carb
     tank -> pump -> filter
                            -> return to tank

The new pump on the old carbs are more likely to flood by pressing more 
on the carb needle and seat.
