alternatively, you could braze or silver-solder dividers in.  there
are brazing alloys compatible with iron thermal expansion.  spot-weld
the dividers to a bracket you can bolt to the head, then cut 'em loose
when they're in.

heating the whole head up enough to avoid cracking might still be a
challenge, but not as hot and thus easier than for welding.
