Darker color primers are sometimes used under browns and reds. If you 
look hard enough (under carpet/floor mat, above head liner), I'm sure 
you'll find some factory primer showing through. The best bet is to 
ignore what the factory did and talk to the person you're buying the 
paint from to see what the manufacturer recommends.

Also, be aware that primer will absorb water so you don't want to leave 
primer exposed for very long. If you can find a close match for some 
touch ups/small areas, I've been very happy with DupliColor two stage 
spray cans. You'll need to use at least 5-6 color and 3-4 clear coats to 
get enough film thickness. It does stick well to the factory paint but 
you need to use their primer for it to stick properly. You can see an
