You'll have fun with a 258 Gremlin! My dad bought a partiall rebuilt totaled 73 in 79 for $300. It only had 42K on it. Base model column shift automatic, 258 2bbl, black deluxe high back buckets, manual disc brakes no power steering, strange combo??? We bought a second one for $25 off a neighbor. Put it's power steering and windshield into the total. I took it to Vale tech, now a wyo tech, I painted the previous beige/tan gremmy 76 V6 yellow, my first total overall paintjob! It looked sharp even with plainjane wheel covers. I soon fell in love with it and begged dad to sell it to me every chance I got, no dice. I was 17 and wanted it bad, I even went so far as to horse trade a set of Dick Cepek tires I'd bought for a full set of AMC 14" rallyes for my mom's car! It looked even better! The carb kept screwing up and even dad gave up on ever getting it right. At the time Holley made the economaster series carbs, being a kid and knowing Holleys were cool! I talked dad into one for the Gremmy. It actually fixed all the issues and gave it an even bigger kick in the pants! I loved that car even more! The little Holley would roar when floored and it did indeed run like a small eight! I Then the muffler rusted out and I bought a Cherry bomb for it, My younger sister hated it, but mom was totally cool with the sound! I tried again to buy it, Still no dice and a 76 Chevy 4X4 came available, so being a kid, I bought the Chevy. 3 weeks later dad sold the Gremmy, for $600! I was pi$$ed, dad just shrugged, I'm still ticked over it. To make matters worse, he sold it to the used car manager at the Tewells dealership, who flipped it for $1200!!! ARG! To top it off I ended up working at Tewells for 5 years and every 3000 miles that little yellow gremmy would come in for an oil change and rub fresh salt in the wound! The only saving graces was my paintjob held up well for those entire 5 years! And I made good money on the Chevy truck! -- Mark Price Morgantown, WV 1969 AMC Rambler, 4.0L, EFI, T-5 " I was different before people dared to be different" -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: JOE FULTON <piper_pa20@xxxxxxxxxxx> > Good on you. > > I got the 77 Gremlin back from the muffler shop > yesterday evening.
