Does anyone know if a 67 Ambo rear end would be the right width to work under my 65 Classic.

ok, yesterday i was getting an estimate at a local windshield shop for my 62 classic. he actually has 2 windshields in his storage for it. suprised as heck. anyway, i am looking to see if anyone knows where i could find the rubber windshield gasket? also, if anyone on here needs some amc glass, he says he has quite a bit of it. when the local amc dealership closed, he aquired all their glass. has mostly grimlin and pacer stuff, but mentioned some amx, jav and matadors. if anyone needs windshields, or back glass, let me know, and i can go talk to him. he said he is more than willing to ship it out rather than let it be hidden in his storage.

how do i get a copy of that amx show on speedchannel? i only cought about the last half of it. turned on the tv and my wife couldnt beleive how suprised i was to see amx on speedchannel.

planning to get rid of the torque tube? '67 was the first year
without it.

the cars were also substantially restyled. old car and driver annual
new car issues report the '65-6 track as 57.6", the '67-8 as 58.5".

this is a v8 car with the iron warner? it was used through '71; what
you need are a '67-'71 converter housing, ['70-1] 360 flexplate, and
possibly crank as they changed the flywheel end a bit when they went
to torqueflites in '72. i know there's a hitch when mixing engine and
tranny the other way.

yes and no. starting in '72 the sixes had a v8 bellhousing pattern,
so you can hook them together with a '67-'71 rebel 290/304 converter
housing [yes, 2bbl v8s were used with aluminum warners] and flexplate
with the balance weight removed [eg. neutral balanced].

but there's another problem. does your upper radiator support have
the zigzag in it like the '65s? they added it so they could move the
radiator forward ~2" [reversing the mounting brackets] and squeeze the
232 in, and even then they used a short water pump seen on no other
amc but also used on '65-'74 jeeps. finding the pump wouldn't be too
hard, but finding the pulley...

there's someone who's putting a jeep 4.0 into a '64 but its serp belt
setup is -very- close to the block and i believe he's planning an
electric pusher fan in front of his radiator.

When I was about 17 my brother decided to change the front shock on our 232 American, two door hardtop. Not knowing what he was doing he used a bumper jack! Took the tire off! Then proceeded to unpolt the bottom of the shock. The car promptly fell off the bumper jack, driving the 3/8" ratchet head thru his hand pinning him to the concrete driveway! I was there by myself not close enough to stop him before this happened. My choices were to leave him pinned to the dirveway while I jacked the car back up with a bumper jack or pick up that corner of the car. I failed on the first try. It told myself impossible or not I HAD to do it. On the second try I lifted that car enough to get him free.
To this day his ring finger his curled and frozen due to this accident as all the bones in the finger and knuckle were crushed and fuzed solid when they healed.
When we returned home after taking him to the hospital I tried to lift that corner of the car again. No dice! My dad tried, he could not do it either! Keep in mind how low a 65 American bumper is to the ground with no wheel or tire on it! The leverage angles are way bad to even try this. Adrenalin is powerful Stuff!

I don't think there is any change in the oil level on these by laying them on their side. Check a 73 or so Hornet/Gremlin six cylinder for oil spec and compare. IIRC the 73 Hornet I parted had it's York laid on it's side.

I too would go with a Sanden Pump, in fact I have one as a spare on my
shelves next to the spare York pump. I have 3 A/C cars with York pumps
them. Why have I not installed the Sanden pump? Working on the
philosophy
of "If it ain't broke don't fix it" I have not had a need to use either
spare pump yet. However I have found that the York pump works 'Jus Fine
on 134 too!

For what its worth!

Duh, you're right, I just parted one out, and yes, the 73 Hornet

A: I used to change motors by hand back in 1975-1979 (before I fell off a
roof on June 28 1979 and broke 2 vertebrae that almost left me paralyzed for
life). I'd push the car close to the work bench, then put a couple planks
across the tops of the fenders and straddle the wheel well. I'd grab the low
rafter in the shop with one hand and heft the motor up with the other and
set it on the plank, climb down and slide it over to the bench.
Yes, I WAS built like a football player back then, but I grew up on a
farm and tossed bales of alfalfa and hay from the age of 8 or so. We did
haying every year and it seemed we got it stacked ever higher on the farm
truck as I got older. (I started out as the steering operator with the truck
at @5 years old with it cruising in bo low because I couldn't reach the
pedals except in an emergency until I was 6 and had a HUUUGE growth spurt)
Is it any wonder I played football and would've been on the Canadian
Olympic weightlifting team (if they hadn't pulled out due to Russia being in
Afghanistan)
Now I'm afraid most of the Ahnold muscle has turned to Molson muscle
(after a car fell on me in '95 I couldn't work much for a year and my
thyroid was damaged which took my energy and gave me weight gain)
As for adrenaline, when the car fell on me, I was nearly back to my prime
condition and I was able to bench press the front of that '91 Honda Civic
off of me and throw the car back a good 10 feet through the garage door!

A: Because every time someone started bidding, their spam and phish attacks
would shoot up 1000% or so and attempts to get people to buy stuff outside
of Ebay sales would go up too. (many of them would be BS too) Last few times
I posted stuff, I had people make me low ball offers if I stopped the
auction before the sale finished. (it also cuts down on collusion)
Whoever is doing the auction can see who is bidding.

does anyone know why E-bay changed the way the high bidder's

Bidder 15 or
whatever. Just curious.

A: It sounds to me like you have an extreme vacuum leak someplace (bad brake
booster or sucked in intake gasket) or the float level is too high (or power
valve blown) snuffing the spark.

From: Nick Lenarz <n9viw@xxxxxxxxx>
Subject: [AMC-List] Weird non-running issue on '82 Jeep CJ

Message-ID:
<20061116133221.84962.qmail@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

I've been up and down the list looking for clues, but nothing
that
sounds like the problem I'm having, so here's my first post to
the
group.
   The patient: 1982 Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler, 258 I-6 bored .040 in
'98,
fitted with Comp Cams #252h (P/N 68-200-4) and a Cloyes
Tru-Roller kit
set to the 3* advanced notches. Intake and exhaust are stock,
with a
glasspack and Catco 400CFM cat on the exh. and a recently
cleaned and
rebuilt Motorcraft 2100 (1.08 bore with #48 jets, 16" PV) on the
int.
Ignition has been converted to a GM HEI module coupled to the
stock
Motorcraft distributor and Ford TFI upgrade kit (cap, adapter,
plugs,
coil). Bosch Platinums have been gapped to .050.
The symptoms: Engine won't stay running. It starts fine, but
dies
off instantly. I can keep it running if I 'blip' the throttle,
but if I
hold it constant, it runs for a few seconds, then dies off
quickly.
This occurs at any throttle position/RPM, almost as if it's
running out
of gas, but it's as sudden as turning the key off. Changing plug
gap
has no effect.
On the occasions I can get it to idle, it will not run
without the
idle mix screws backed out at least 4 turns and the choke mostly
closed. When tuning, it will run at 6-8* BTDC, but acts like
it's way
retarded (snapping back into the exhaust manifold). If I tune
for best
idle/vac, it runs better, but the timing is off the rack (24*+)
and it
dies as soon as I go off-idle.
I've been told I have a vacuum leak, and the vacuum IS low
(max of
16 inHg) but I'm hard-pressed to find one. The manifolds are
tight to
the engine, and have Stage 8 locking fasteners on them. The
MC2100 is
bolted to the intake with a custom-milled adapter made from 1"
thick
billet aluminum. The choke vacuum port in the base of the carb
has been
epoxied shut, with a machine screw threaded in for good measure.
The
heater plate in the intake is intact, the EGR valve doesn't work
but is
definitely closed (checked it by blowing thru the intake port
and
pressing on the pintle to open and close the valve). The
manifold
vacuum port above the EGR valve has teflon tape on the threads
and is
very tight, and has been capped during testing.

Any suggestions are much appreciated, I'm just stumped.

Thanks,
Nick
