Bryan,
Not sure if I can be any help but--------
SNIP
Does anybody have any suggestions on what might be wrong.
I am trying to fix it myself
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Bryan

Apparently access to the fuel pump is through the back seat.
You have to remove the seat to gain access, at least for some of the
fuel pump related diagnostics. (Info obtained from a Chilton type of
tech. manual)
Are sure it is loss of fuel that is causing the stalling. Does the
stalling happen with enough frequency so you can be there to catch it?
If so, having a fuel pressure gauge as a diagnostic tool is not a bad
thing to have. Checker carries them as I suppose many others do to. I
finally bought one this spring as I was getting tired of guessing. It
has become an oft used tool. Seems to me about $35.00 or so got me one
that was workable.
A pressure gauge hooked up to the fuel injection regulator/rail becomes
very handy to have it gives indications of regulator and pump problems.
If lines were kinked because of the rear end accident this may screw up
the fuel pump delivery and the operation of the regulator.
Past that, not sure I can be of any better help.
Good Luck
John.
Obligatory AMC content, fuel pressure gauge was also used on FI
conversion on 1980 Spirit.

Hi Steven, I just heard of this, if I can get my voltage regulator working I
will be going. Could you give me general directions, as I was told it was at
their Distribution Centre in Mississauga.

Thanks all who answered me on and off list on the door
swapping. I plan to put the eagles leather interior
and power stuff in my hornet as I can get all this
stuff real cheap and right now is just a bolt on swap.
The Hornets interior is gnarley due to sitting under
an oak tree since 91, and the Eagle is nicely optioned
(the only thing he skipped was power seats). I will
handle swapping things onto the big doors once I build
up a surplus wad of dough.......Russ

If the car just stalls without any warning that
usually indicates electronics. Check to see if there
are any cracks in the coil, also check the condensor
as suggested. Check everything undr the cap. My
American did that and a coil swap fixed her....Russ

Who was it that rebuilds trunions?
SNIP

The following web sites have information leading to rebuilding your own
trunions
http://www.skidmore.edu/~pdwyer/amc/wctrun/
http://www.skidmore.edu/~pdwyer/amc/trunnion.htm#parts
http://wps.com/AMC/Front-suspension/index.html

In addition, the major AMC vendors have sold rebuilt or new trunions/and
or parts required to rebuild them. See Eddy Stakes Planet Huston web
site for extensive list of AMC vendors.
Depending on the vendor in Phoenix, I can not recommend the work having
seen it and talked to the people that were sorry enough to have
attempted to use it.

Dave, you'll have to modify something no matter what. I'd suggest using
a Concord front bar, and maybe an Eagle rear. The four bar rear
suspension probably doesn't need a rear sway bar though. Your car rolls
so much because of the soft springs more than anything. Once the
suspension is stiffened up it will track better and roll less.

I have a Concord front bar on my 63. I had to bend the ends a little to
fit the stock sway bar locations on the lower arms. Bending a sway bar
is okay as long as you DO NOT use heat. The ends are bent out at an
angle on the Concord, I had to straighten them in a hydraulic press. To
mount it I drilled down all the way through the front rails and used
long bolts. You could use self tapping screws and just go through the
lower part of the rail, but I didn't because that could pull out.

Only the V-8 58-66 cars came with a sway bar, and it mounts to the rear.
It won't work with a six -- I tried. The bar is made to go between the
oil pan and bell on the V-8, and the six is at a different location.

John Elle has a better memory than he thinks! I've had problems in the
past with the choke tube rusting/breaking/leaking INSIDE the exhaust
manifold. I drilled the old tube out and carefully inserted a piece of
steel brake line in. It might leak a slight amount, when cold, but
everything expands as the engine warms if the tube is a snug (but not so
tight it won't go in) fit. The same steel can be used all the way up to
the carb, but copper will work as good. If you're getting carbon inside
the choke housing the tube has a leak inside the manifold. Should be
nothing but air in there!

How accurate is Bill's history?
>Ford, Chrysler, AMC and Studebaker all used Autolite / Prestolite
starters >at one time or another.

Arfon, it's pretty good! I'm not sure about AMC using Prestolite
starters, but they have used Prestolite ignition systems. Remember the
late 70s Prestolite electronic ignition that was only used 2-3 years
before AMC switched to Autolite (Ford)? Delco and Autolite have been
used on different engines by AMC for years. In the late 50s and through
the 60s the L-head 196 used an Autolite ignition/starter/generator and
the OHV used Delco. The V-8s were the same way -- mixed. Don't have
access to TSMs to look up the various years, but sounds like that would
be a nice short article for AIM.
