They never were in the Scouts,the Scouts  had an IHC version of a 304 and a 345 it was the bigger fullsized trucks and travelalls that had a 401 but most orf the heavier duty trucks used the IHC 392

All the Amc 401 engines had forged rods and steel crank. IH did use a different 401 for a period. Buick maybe? The Amc 401 can also be found in IH scouts, travel all, busses, and various farm equip.
