Hey Doc, Although my car is a 75, I would have sworn that the alternator was a
Motorola. Now you have me worried and I'll have to look. What was the deal
with them? Why are they so bad? I do have the Prestolite ignition module in my
car, and I read where they are bad. I remember my car going through spurts
of shutting down on me on the highway back in 77. Turned out it was the
Prestolite gone bad. I'd like to get rid of it, but have no idea how to do it or
where to start. I envy our friends in the southdue to the availability of cars
and parts. As you know, there are not many AMC cars left in the Northeast as the
road salt did them in years ago, as it did many fine old cars of various makes.

Do you have a Motorola alt in your car? 74 was the last year
  for that
piece of crap. I now have a nice 100 amp Delco in my orange
  Hornet. Six
cyl models with power steering have huge bracket and steering
  box
clearance issues to install a Delco, but between me and my friend
  we
over came them. Since you don't have A/C and have a V8, Kennedy
  American
makes a nice kit to install a Delco. My son just put one on his 72
  V8
Javelin. The interior was my big problem since it was originally
  a
Florida car and it was just cooked. I got door and hatch gaskets,
  door
window track felt, window fuzzes from Kennedy American and also the
  so
called formed carpet kit which took forever to make fit. I got
  original
seat insert material from a place in Oregon. Luckily my friend
  was
parting out an old base model Gremlin Con Edison fleet car and gave me
  a
bunch of the plastic interior parts I needed. All the rest of
  the
interior parts I had to hunt for all over the country. Between here
  and
the AMX files I was given, bought and put onto people that had what
  I
needed. Like I say part of building a nice car is the hunt for that
  one
elusive part you need to finish the project. I laugh at these car
  shows
on TV where the truck pulls in with 10,000$ worth of repo parts and
  all
they basically do is assemble the car except for rust repair and paint.
 "Doc".
