Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Gremlin- animal

Thanks for the kind words Eddie about my restoration tips. Being a
mechanic (I also worked at an AMC dealer briefly in the early 70's) and
I also ran a body shop and am a model car builder for over 45 years
gives me an incite on restoration and detailing. I will have to say that
this orange Hornet has been a real challenge to me both mechanically and
cosmetically. There are a lot of things I have done on this car that
were firsts for me and I learned from doing. We all learn somthing new
every day. I have learned a lot too from people on this group. Out of
all the car and model car groups I belong to this is one of the top
groups. You are the second person this week Eddie that complimented me.
I got an E-Mail from a total stranger from the AMX files also saying
nice things about my posts. How's Paige and the kids?

The best part here is that
A: you had fun
B: it was unexpected you won anything

I can tell you from experience (gee, some like the Voice of Excretement) from going to hundreds of shows, mixed make, AMC only, you name it thru the years, the best part is going and winning a door prize or trophy....when you don't expect it.

Somewhere along the line here I mentioned the Planet Houston Award, which is a trophy I give out at meets, sometimes one, sometimes three of them, but usually has a Johnny Lightning AMX on top, real neat trophy, but always given to those owers 'whose cars show the most potential' and the reckoning behind that is simple: a majorty of the times it will give people a little extra boost, push them over the edge, to complete their car. Even fi the car is a beater driver, they might go out after the meet or afterwards and buy something, anything, to improve it. Maybe a spot of JB Weld to fix grill, or maybe some weatherstrip, some even buy soap to wash it! And sometimes it is all they need to get inspired to get started.

One thing on this particular list is Doc's ramblings. I would say anyone who has ever read his posts has learned something, I know I have, and tried some of his methods, and even modified some of the things he has tried. But there is a lot of great tips he has passed on to everyone here, and hopefully no matter or how small or large, it has either inspired someone to try it, or made a difference in improving their car, even if a small tad.

As for you, congratulations Terry, good to hear. Something you might do is go thru my 'links' section and if there are any AMC or Rambler chapters near you, let them know about this meet and hook up with them and next time you won't be the only 'Mopar' there. Granted it might cost you first place, but what the hell, if a dozen folks show up with their AMCs.......

Thanks Bill, I understand. This wasn't any kind of technical judging show. Just the guys who put it on gave the trophies to the cars they liked the best. My car is a long, long way from being a show car. It looks ok 20 feet away but when your up close it has a whole lot to be desired. The only reason it gets attention is the fact that it is a Gremlin. If it was a Mustang or something else it wouldn't get any looks at all. My biggest problem is during the summer I am too busy enjoying it to do much to it. I just try and keep it going. In the winter it is stored about 20 miles away in a garage that is so full of my other halfs junk that I am lucky if I can squeeze into it to start it every once in a while. Every October after the last car show I say this is the winter I am going to fix it up and every April I find myself saying I will throw another coat of wax on it and will do it next winter Thanks again.
