 YOu shouldn't have any issues running that cam with the compression you have.  Just be sure you get the correct springs to match the cam.
 If you want to boost the compression  have the heads plained and use a ROL .035 head gasket set. Or if you are using 58 cc heads go with 51cc heads That will boost you up plenty. The torker and 750 carb would be my choice. I take it you won't be using this as a daily driver in the cold weather. I have a stock 8.5 to 1 360 running a bigger cam  with 50 cc heads and the thinner ROL head gaskets and torker intake and holley 650 and I drive that on the street with no problem I even have a 4000 stall converter.  My combo makes close to 400HP and the rings are worn out bad.
 Make sure you have a good ignition system and a good oil system. I reccommend MSD ignition and one of my street oil pump kits.

The engine was a running stocker and I tore it down enough to put a
(Recommended cam into it) That was before I found out it was 8.5.

The cams summits Biggin for the Amc v8.

So what the heck do I do now? I cant afford to do what it takes to
get the cr up to 9.5 or higher. Plus I want to run pump gas.

I just need advice and some positive renforcment :)

Heres what I got and Im stuck with because of money issues.

Stock 401 with 8.5
Torker intake
Performer Intake
600 edelbrock carb
and edelbrock 750.

Summits big cam or #8601 I think
Hedmann headers
and exhaust is up in the air.


What should I do to make this a runner in its as is state?

Any suggestions?
