[BaadAssGremlins] Re: disposable cars...

"Twenty five years ago most people thought of and treated our beloved
Gremlins, Hornets, etc as disposable cars. That is why there are so few
decent ones around now."

I agree, however, note that one could buy a new Gremlin for $1898.00 in
1970. Yes, 1970 dollars, still a bargain:

But like other sub compacts of that era, from Pinto, Vega, Chevette, Colt to
name a few off top of head, these cars were mostly driven to hell, worked
hard and put up wet, so when it might have came time to fix something like a
high ticket item like trans, many people simply sold them, traded them in,
or hauled away because resale vaule was next to nil. This was not a unique
AMC problem however, many of these cars simply fell apart at X amount of
miles and driving conditions. Same for today, it is why I mentioned the PYP
yards here in Houston filled and overflowing with 1995-current cars and
trucks. There is a lesson there, maybe on society as a whole, whether it is
cell phones, computere monitors and screens and televisions, even phones. My
home phone battery was lost due to Jacob hiding it under the bed. I went to
buy another it was $20 and the guy at Wal Mart said 'hell, for $20 you can
buy a whole new phone system' of which I thought he was joking. Two days
later I was at Home depot and guess what? There is my cordless Uniden phone,
base, everything, whole brand new system....for $19.95. Yikes.
