Wasn't referring to the which came first thing.
It was whole 'Basically' thing that blew up. :)
In that one, there would absolutely have been 
an argument made on the Mat vs the Reb. They
couldn't grasp the term 'basically'.

I have seen that argument about who came first the chicken or the egg
about the AMX's and Javelin's----Who Cares. In the case of the Matador's
before the totally different coupe they were "basically" Rebel's and
there can be no argument about it there. "Doc"
