Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Anyone running 17" wheels?

I have never run 17" wheels on anything but have a friend who has and
have watched these installed on cars on the TV car shows. Due to the
small height of the low profile tires the side wall of the tire is very
stiff and causes a harsh ride as it transmits all road irregularities to
the car whare as a normal tire with a taller softer side wall absorbs
more of the road vibrations. My friend hit a pot hole and broke a wheel,
lost control and went off the road. Luckily there was only minor damage
to the car and no one was hurt. I have seen on a few car shows on TV
that installed 17" wheels and they all said you had to go to larger
brakes to make the car stop properly. Big and Little's are good for
aesthetics and a straight line but not much on handling.
I have 14" wheels on the yellow Hornet with the metric equal of
E-60-14's in back with 8" wheels slightly narrower tire up front with
7" wheels for sway bar clearance. The yellow car will keep this tire and
wheel combo even when the V-8 is installed. The orange car has the same
size tires as the yellow car with 8" wheels all around. Tire clearance
on the front fenders is at a minimum on the orange car due to the 8"
wheel with and offset. I like a car that handles as I am a hard driver.

--- Begin Message --- I seen a hornet the other day with what looked like 17"s wheels.

They where the American alloy rocket style and it looked sharp.

Im thinking of maybe lowering mine a tad unless the wheels do the
trick.

Im not going for stock so the guys that dig that dont get upset. :)
I have some magnum 500s that I restored as well so I may use those
for show.

I also like the Fat wide rears and skinnier front look from back in
the day.  So plans may change, Im just weighing all my options.
