" will the early 232 take the 4.0 head also?

yep; same bolt pattern, same 1/2" head bolts. same [sort of] water
passage mods.

if you're sticking with the t96, i'd stay clear of hp-increasing
mods... for efficiency/emileage/emissions, gm-based tbi on the '82
manifolds is what i'd do, and i'm not sure it'd be any harder than the
head swap, custom eprom included. someone [mark price?] has already
done one. [iirc it's injection only, but also iirc early '80s chevy
250 i6 hei is set up for electronic advance, and converting an hei
from mech to electronic is probably just a parts swap]

if you're lucky enough to fall on a v8 drivetrain for your '62, afaik
a '67-'74 v8 bell would bolt a complete 4.0 to both the t86 [287] and
t89 [327] trannies.

" SOME DAY, when i come across a ford 8.8 rear disk axle out of an
" exploder, and a t5, ill get my 304 dropped in casper. i have engine,
" bellhousing, crossmemeber, triangulated 4bar rear axle kit, ect. just
" need axle and trans.

in that case i wouldn't do anything to the 232 since it's temporary,
unless you're bored and need something to do...
