Haven't had time to read everything, however, a couple of points. If you are going to all the trouble of resurfacing the flywheel, definetly replace do the full clutch job. Replace the throwout bearing and pilot bushing. Why not save your self the trouble of having to re-do it all later, but that's just me. I personally would never replace the clutch without having the flywheel surfaced.... make sure to take it to a good shop and tell them to take as little as possible. Check the condition of your "pivot ball" and it's pedastal in the bellhousing as well as the condition of your throwout fork. Make sure there are no cracks or that the contact areas are not completely worn away. In either case, replace (unless your REALLY good with a welder and can repair it... it is possible) While it is certainly easier to get to your rear main seal with the trans and flywheel off, it is certainly not necessary. Regardless, if you have the time, now would be a good time to do it and it adds almost NO expense to the project. As has been pointed out, it is a 2 part seal. (NOT an actual "rope" seal though) and should seep almost nothing when it is fresh and operating properly. Be sure and find a brass drift if you are going to do this as it will allow you to bump the seal upper half without damaging the crank... if you nick the crank even slightly where the sealsurface of the rear main rides you will NEVER be able to keep a seal from leaking... so DON't use a screwdriver or steel punch. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
