Re: [AMC-list] eagle 82 poor running Carb

My belief is that the current batches of fuel mix we get is pretty darned good at scouring out gum and varnish.
It seems that if the car will run well enough to get through a tank or two of gas the system cleans itself!

   The killers are.
Rust
Actual chunks and bits of dirt.
Hardening of gaskets and rubber hoses.
The dreaded black gunk! That hardens on valve stems and sticks the valves.

Once running do the crawl, check and or replace all the hoses! When they are 10+ years old they tend to be hard as ROCK. Replace.

I now only buy efi rated hose as all the efi hose I used is fine. non efi rated by the tank on the return was rock hard after only about 8 years!

My 81 Concord 258 with BBD was running poorly this year, could not keep it running unless i kept my foot on the gas to keep her going, then had to keep braking the car as well. My vac lines were all ok, and it had run fine last year. I put a bottle of the GUMOUT gold color Fuel system- carb and FI cleaner in and a full tank of gas. Ran through about 3/4 of a tank... it said to run the tank to near empty, and then all of a sudden its running great, won't skip a beat, so had good luck with that. Maybe cleared out a jet, or removed some moisture, who knows, but just a thought.
regards.

was workin on the 82 eagle today. had to take the dizzy out of the 79
spirit and put in the eagle. do some vacume line plugging. got it to
ALMOST run. had to do the 45 mile trip to town to get a hand full of
parts. got home, tinkered little more (carb rebuild mainly) set the dizzy
correctly because someone before me had it WAY out of wack. well, after
about 1 hour of messing with timing, i finally got it to run. wont idle
still. i think its got a bad vacume leak somewhere. no knocks or bad
noises. will only run above 1000 rpm or so. im thinking im going to buy a
none stepper motor carb. (has a stepper on it now) going to get rid of
ALL vacume/electronic crap off of it. none of the gauges work. HAD the 3
gauges/w clock on the nonexisting center console. gauges are there, but
not one gauge works. i know it has oil pressure as oil is just gushing
out from under the valve cover on the intake side. now i know what
everyone is talking about with the stupid plastic valve cover. whats the
fix for that? now to just make it idle, and start fixing all the crap
thats bad with it now that i know it will run.
