Re: [AMC-list] Nick Alfano's new front end kit -- and I'm moving

I mentioned this to Nick in an e-mail. The factory crossmember from a 71-74 Javelin interchanges with the big car crossmember (except long wheelbase Ambassador), so the lower crossmember and rack and pinion should work as-is. The upper arm is a different story -- the 68 upper arms are definitely different from the 70-74 as the 68 still has trunnions up top. The big things are the distance between the upper arm mounting points, distance between those points and center of ball joint, and the distance between the ball joints. I'm pretty sure the distance out from body to ball joint is going to be different from the 68, may not be on the 70+ big cars. So you should be able to use the lower crossmember and arms to get a rack and pinion steering, assuming the lower ball joint is in the same position as it is on a stock 71-74 Javelin. Should be about the same on the Javelin and big cars with stock lower arms.
