[AMC-list] Offy Intake for 6cyl

  Hi Steve,

I got your question from a post Eddie Stakes made on the AMC list.  I am an Offy dealer and I have run across this same issue before with our AMC 6 cyl.  The problem you are having is a typical one when adding a header to the AMC 6cyl because the factory manifolds are much thicker than a typical 3/8 header flange.  There are really two ways you can correct this.  The first would be to make a thick step washer to evenly sit on both the intake and exhaust flanges.  The second which is probably a little easier/cleaner is to have your machine shop mill a step in the intake manifold where the bolt meets the header flange to be in the same plane.  You can do this by hand with a Dremel but won't be as exact or look as professional as having it machined in a mill.  I machined the intake on one I just built with the Clifford dual outlet header and it worked great.

Hi. My name is Steve. I came across your site after a long search through many pointless sites looking for info on mounting a Offenhauser 4BBL intake and a set of headman headers to my L6 motor. It started out as good idea but has sence become one problem to overcome after another. My current problem is bolting up the intake/header to the engine. They use common bolts to mount them.The header and manifold are different in depth. I cant use the stock bolts becouse it wont seal the header flange and I cant use the shorter locking bolts I bought with the headers becouse they are not long enough to  pull in the intake. What is my option? Thanks in advance,Steve
