Re: [AMC-list] Engine assembly

In either Car Craft or Hot Rod, they built a pre-lube bucket for use with a late model engine with the same problem. I think the contraption was nothing more that a 5 gallon bucket with oil in it, a hose and fitting to connect to the engine, and a hole to stick the end of a blow gun into to pressurize it. You could probably rig something up with a hand pump pressure sprayer like you use to to spray various garden chemicals if nothing else.

On 2/9/2010 1:15 PM, tom jennings spouted this sage advice:
<snip>
set (about 10* BTDC), run it sans plugs until oil light blinks or oil
begins
weeping out the rockers ,

I disagree here too!! No matter how short a time spinning the engine
without
oil pressure is a gamble!!

In Nate's defense, this was in response to me telling him that my engine,
you cannot spin up the oil pump with a chopped distributor; it's gear driven
right off the camshaft. Not having a pressure system for pre-oil I don't
have a lot of choice.
