could be; i've been told that '60s and '70s amc15 pinion seals were
different - or specifically, that '70s pinions wouldn't fit '60s
axles.

all 3 of my '66 199s had the big nut; afaik '67 was the first year
that didn't.  232 americans ['65-up] never did.
