The subject of the lowering plates come up every now and then. Several people have made them and I ran a set on my AMX for the 12 years I owned the car with no probs. I'm getting ready to make a set for my 'Cord.
It is basically a plate sandwiched in between the upright and the spindle. I made two sizes, the more radical shares on set of bolts. I used 3/8 inch steel plate. I have the two plastic templates that I use to make a set and if someone sends me a SASE I will send two cardboard diagrams. 
Don't forget to gusset the plates......Russ
