Re: [Amc-list] When they started pushing drivers and

I agree NASCAR is not the same as it used to be, but part of that is just
our memories. Even Trans Am in its heyday was not great racing. The same
cars won every week, we just remember it as being awesome. Do you think
Richard Petty winning 20 races in one season was fun to watch?

With NASCAR, some good races still occur from week to week, and I enjoy
watching it. The short tracks, road courses, and the old tracks like
Charlotte and Darlington still put on a good show. All the 1.5 mile
cookie-cutter tracks could go though, along with Michigan and California,
they are all boring.

Carl Edwards has put some life into the series over the last couple of
years. His last lap attempt to pass Johnson during one of the chase races
this year, was quite an effort. He drove it into turn 3 so hard on the
last lap he went all the way across the track smacked the wall. He was
willing to throw away an easy second place finish to try and win, but has
the hard nose attitude to win at all costs.

Besides, they have not been stock cars since the late 1960's, when
Hollman-moody convinced Nascar to use the same frame, floorboards, etc from
their Fords for all the cars. And if you want the current V8 in your
street car, go buy one. they are expensive, but available, NASCAR requires
them to be.

To me, the best racing today is the Grand Am, and Koni Challenge Series.
They begin the season at the end of the month with the 24 hours of Daytona,
and continue road racing the rest of the year at some of the best tracks in
America.
