[Amc-list] generator, to alternator conversion

ok, so, i was bored, and went out, verified wire colors, and got pics of the alternator for wiring, and brackets to convert. alt is not on engine, or in car, as engine is not even in car. the alt is a little bigger than the gen, so you need to get a little bigger belt, and about 1" longer lower radiator hose, unless your hose will clear the alt fan. mine wouldnt.

you will need brackets like mine has to mount to the gen mounts. most can be built out of some good angle iron.

on the wiring, the heavy orange/red what ever color it is (mine looks orange) but the main power wire, goes onto the red insulated stud. the plug in slot "2" hooks to the main power stud. slot "1" is the green wire (on mine) coming from the idiot light. that wire will energize the alt. and kills the "gen" light on the dash. if a smaller pulley can be sourced for the alt, would make it work better, as the crank pully on the 196 is pretty small compared to the gm motors the alts came on.

the pics can be viewed at my link below, go to "10SI alternator upgrade/wiring" album. i also am putting captions below the pics to aid in wiring. when it goes back in the car, i will get installed pics.
