Tom,
    Even my 69 has that same stupid clutch!
Only about the top 1-2" does anything at all!
    With freeplay in mine I think I can still shift with 3" of movement max.

I have that squealing noise when it is to the floor, so I have a stop bolted to the bottom of the pedal that keeps it about an 1 1/2" off the florr when fully depressed. still works fine. Still squeals, but not so often or so loud.
