I can verify that the top two bolt holes are in the same location -- just the lower ones moved (lower for three point mount cars). You can't drill holes for the lower bolt holes though. The older bell curves up to the bolts similar to the way it curves on the sides. The lower holes and different bell design "truss" the engine and trans unit better for support. 

I found that I could bolt an SR-4 four speed to a T-96 bell through the top two bolt holes and align everything perfectly -- as near as I could tell anyway. The bearing retainer on the SR-4 is much bigger than the old model T-96 though, that would have been a problem. I though about making an adapter plate about 1/4" thick  that would hold the larger retainer and bolt to the older type lower holes in the bell using recessed screws. The plate would extend down where the newer trans could bolt to it with through bolts. Never did it though. Not sure what thickness adapter would be needed to make the input shaft length right... think it was around 1/2" though. There is a T-96 to T-5 adapter made for early Ford Falcons that should work.

this sounds like the reverse of what i'd heard, that the lower holes
were moved down when the rear mounts moved from the bell to the
tailshaft.  before, the tranny was hanging off the bell; after, the
tranny is half supporting the engine - principally through the lower
bolts.

if you're right, is there enough thickness on the bell to drill for
the '67 lower bolts?
