That would be the blower motor resistor, which is part of the blower 
motor speed control circuit.  It consists of N-1 (where N is the 
number of terminals) resistors that are placed in series with the 
blower motor, selected by the speed control switch.  It is placed in 
the cabin ventilation air stream to cool it.
