[Amc-list] tranmission adjustment help

Hi, Guys:

My '62 Ambassador (327 2 bbl auto) is not up-shifting from 1 to 2. I only have R and one foreward gear.

This weekend I checked that the shifter was correctly adjusted - I disconnected the lever, then shifted the L button and pulled the prong all the way back, then adjusted the clevis pin to the correct location. I was hoping that this would fix the problem, but it didn't.

Changed the fluid in the transmission - it was brite red, but a tad over-full. Refilled to correct level.

The modulator seems to be fine with a metal vacuum line connected there and at the engine.

I did not have a pan gasket on had so didn't check the filter. I'll do that next weekend. I also want to check the adjustment of the bands, but from the manual they reference all of the AMC tools that of course I do not own. Since the adjustment involves torquing to a specific level, is that something I can do with the same torque wrench I use for head bolts, etc? Or is that going to be too big? From the pics the workshop manual, the space looks mighty tight.

Anyway, I'm just looking for tips or input from anyone else who's done this. My cars live in SW Michigan, and I won't be back there until Saturday . . . now that gas is back down to $3.85 up here (whoever thought that would seem like a bargain?) I want to get some driving out of that thirsty V8 before I can't afford it at all!

-Justin
