Okay - thanks for all the great ideas. While the idea of welding
sounds great, I'd like to take a course or find someone local that
would show me how. In lieu of that, I think I will try my hand at
bonding. I was reading the "Old Cars Guide to Auto Restoration" (it's
just a magazine). It has a good article on bonding sheet metal in a
door panel on a truck.

The section I need to take care of is flat, it does not extend to the
center area. The article says it is more time and labor intensive than
simply MIG welding a patch in, but I'll give it a shot.

Heading out on vacation the end of next week, so won't get at it until
the end of August. I'll take pics in case anyone is interested. My
thought is to buy the Eastwood kit, cut out a rectangular section,
sand the mating edges down to bare metal, bond, rivet and paint.
