The 1967 AMC 10-50-80 Series TSM, which covers Marlin, specifies that 
the Flash-O-Matic transmission should be filled with "AQ-ATF Type A" 
fluid.  Dexron III/Mercon is a replacement for Type A fluid, not Type 
F (Ford spec M2C33F) fluid.

Ford started using Dexron type fluids in 1977 for some transmissions 
and phased out the use of Type F completely by 1981.
