Re: [Amc-list] OT:Follow the directions

" From: russ hathaway <russh97309@xxxxxxxxx>

" By legislating every little step we take or want to
" take, we grow a crop of people who can't think for
" themselves or make decisions. The Govt loves this type
" of population, easy to manipulate and control.
" Katrina was a good example; these idiots who got stuck
" in 'Orleans waited for the Govt to save them, even
" with three days warning. They waited and took no
" action on their own when the hurricane was forecasted,
" because they have been groomed to wait and be told
" what to do.

and it's a little appalling that they're allowing the flooded 9th ward
to rebuild in place instead of trading these folks some
non-flood-prone land somewhere else. they are i hope at least being
told that they are no longer eligible for disaster relief when it
floods the next time.

" Inattention is a rampant problem in driving, and
" getting worse (it isn't talking on the phone, that is
" way down the list). And why are people inattentive-
" because their car does everything and all they have to
" do is sit and ruminate. Several car makers even have
" an automatic parallel parking feature-GIVE ME A BREAK.

one car maker - audi? - has an ad with a car doing a lurid 180-degree
powerslide into a parallel parking space. the tag is 'for people who
want to park their own cars'. of course, they'll change their tune
the moment car buyers start demanding self-parking...

" KISS is the way we should keep the cars, and
" unfortunately all these fat-ass drivers love to just
" sit and steer. Wait; steering takes too much thought
" and energy, maybe Toyota will fix that. Save us,
" Toyota, from our own thoughts.

traction control and abs are already leaching critical thinking from
our drivers. car talk had a caller a few weeks ago, not a youngster
iirc, who said his volvo [sic] vibrated when he stepped on the brakes,
but only on snow and ice, and he asked how did it know? to their
credit, they replied right off that it was his abs, and if it was
happening he was driving way too fast.

traction control will teach drivers to treat the accelerator like an
on/off switch too.

" In all seriousness, when my neighbors new Kia wouldn't
" start she just sat there, calling a tow truck.

she's an appliance driver; her car is just a black box that gets her
from one place to another. she'd be much happier with a star trek
transporter.
