If more than two cylinders on a six need sleeving I usually leave it alone too, unless it's just hard to get another. But you can sleeve all if you want to pay the price. That or try to find a larger piston, which is difficult due to the dome design. The blocks can be bored up to 0.125 over, at least prior to 63. 63 is about when thin casting techniques started being used, but I don't think the molds for the 196 were ever changed. Could have been though, that's why the 63-65 precaution. 

No one who drives AMCs wants a 196, so they aren't too hard to find nor expensive when you do, but transportation costs (never can find one in "your neck of the woods" when you really need it!) can be the deal killer. In another 5-10 years they will be very rare though, so you might want to keep that block if you ever want to do a restoration. The blocks are pretty durable, it's the heads that crack pretty easy now due to age and prior abuse. Keep that head torqued every couple years!

I finally started measuring clearances on the used
.060 oversize engine block today and found that, even
with a new .060 oversize piston in #1 cylinder the
piston skirt to bore clearance was excessive.  The
manual says .0006 to .0017 is acceptable.  I was
measuring at least .004  Two other cylinders were
comparable so I consulted with the machinist and he
said bring him another block.  I had asked him to try
to save this block by just honing it and that's what
they did.  I have a great set of .060 oversize pistons
I want to reuse, hence the request to try to save the
block.

No joy.  I have another .040 oversize block which I
will take to the machine shop on Monday.  It pays to
have spare parts lying around.  More expense, but at
least I know the engine will be closer to being
correct.
