Hi, New to this list.I have a 64 AMC Rambler Classic with a 232. I also have a 63 classic, but due parts being so hard to find, I'm currently using it has a parts car. THe 64 is in great condition, I'm currently fixing small stuff now, but I've been driving it. I'm debating on swapping the inline 6 for a V-8. A 287 or 327. I was wondering if anybody knows of either one for sale in my area. (would actually like the tranny to go with the V-8) I live in the middle Tennessee area. Also, I'm trying to repair the heater valve and have somewhat got it fixed with some seals I found at Lowes. It's not factory, but I got it to work, BUT, it still leaks by a little bit when it's off. Not a huge deal, but I actually like to fix it 100%. On the Ranco switch, can somebody tell me why it has a little copper coil, kind of like a temp. gauge or sensor? I can't see any purpose in this, since it is completely controlled by the lever inside. The seat belts are there, but they don't roll up. I think they should, but maybe not. Any info would be helpful.a That's enough for now, I've got more for later, but that will be a start. I'd take the axles somewhere that has a power hack saw, the horizontal kind that continuously runs fluid over the blade while cutting. Most welding shops should have one, the bigger ones anyway. Don't forget to chamfer the edge of the cut, but you can get away with doing that yourself with an angle grinder. The chamfer is mainly to allow the axle to slide in easier. ------- Date: Sun, 05 Aug 2007 01:30:13 +0000 From: Wrambler242@xxxxxxxxxxx Anyone got a Fraud 9" pig laying around? I'm looking for a 3:25 or 3:50 geared center section for one. I found some cut to fit 31 spline axles that are made by Yukon. They are pretty cool as they are splined for 5-6 inches [forget the exact length]. You just cut them to length. With my 56" housing they will work well as one side will only be a 1/4 longer then the minimum length of 25.5" So it's almost an exact fit when cut! The other side will be 3"s longer. They are priced good as I can get a pair off Ebay for $180 shipped, yukon has good name, we have very good chop saw here at work too. I asked the seller how they cut them and he said a chop saw does fine if you take your time. I think there is a place down town with a cold saw. I may ask them what they charge for a cut. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Sun, 05 Aug 2007 18:29:09 +0000 From: Wrambler242@xxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [Amc-list] 79amx front frame. Otherwise anything short of a front subframe clip will likely be a bandaid aproch as you will be dealing with thin subframe rails all over that front end if one side is that bad. -- Mark Price Morgantown, WV 1969 AMC Rambler, 4.0L, EFI, T-5 " I was different before people dared to be different" -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: "Garry Nordstrom" <gasnordstrom@xxxxxxxxxxx> > > as I am preparing to install the 343 , the frame frame rail shows advanced > rust, the shock tower has rusted away. > as the new engine will exceed 400h.p. this frame will not hold up. NUMBERS!!! (I just finished watching "23" with the wife... and I recently put out the AMC numbers book...) Tom, you're correct -- only V-8s in Ambassadors from 1958-1964. When the 232 came out across the board in 65 it was added to the Ambo line. The 195.6 was just a bit over adequate in the Classic at the time, can't have that in the flagship! All Ambos had 327s, no 287s. The 327 came in 2V or 4V high compression flavors starting in 1960. 58-59 models were all 4V high compression (high was 9.7:1, standard 8.7:1). Series numbers: 0 - 58-68 American, 66-69 Rogue, 69 Rambler, 70-77 Hornet, 78-83 Concord (actually series 01 -- all others add a zero to the end, 1 = Series 10, etc.) 1 - 50-60 Rambler Six (yes, even the small body Nash Rambler!), 61-66 Classic, 66-70 Rebel, 71-74 Matador, 74-78 Matador Coupe (Matador sedan/wagon took over Series 80 when the Ambo was phased out) 2 - 57 Rambler V-8 (except special edition Rebel, there were 250 powered Ramblers in 57), 58-60 Rebel (all V-8 Ramblers were renamed Rebel), 61 Classic V-8 (after 61 the different series number for V-8s was dropped) 3 - 57 Rambler Special Edition (w/327), 68-70 two seater AMX, 80-88 Eagle (except SX/4) 4 - 55-56 Statesman/Wasp*, 70-78 Gremlin, 79-83 Spirit 5 - 56 Ambassador/Hornet Special*, 65-67 Marlin, 81-83 Eagle SX/4 6 - 55-56 Ambassador/Hornet 6*, 75-80 Pacer 7 - 68-74 Javelin 8 - 55-57 Ambassador/Hornet 8*, 58-74 Ambassador, 75-78 Matador 9 - Alliance/Encore *The model number on Hudsons has a "3" in front of the year to distinguish Hudson models from Nash. Body styles (fourth digit in body number): 1 - Two Door Convertible (54 only) 2 - Two Door Business Sedan (55-63 only) (A flat storage platform replaced the back seat to increase storage space) 3 - Hardtop Wagon (56-60 only) 3 - Two Door Hatchback (73-83) 4 - Two Door Wagon (54-63) 5 - Four Door Sedan 6 - Two Door Sedan 7 - Two Door Hardtop (54-57) 7 - Two Door Convertible (61-68) 8 - Four Door Wagon 9 - Four Door Hardtop (56-60) 9 - Two Door Hardtop (63-75) -------------- Date: Sat, 4 Aug 2007 18:49:55 -0700 From: Tom Jennings <tomj@xxxxxxx> Subject: Re: [Amc-list] Take a look at a tired old Rambler On Saturday 04 August 2007 17:32:40 Ken Ames wrote: > > Tag on passenger side spring tower would tell also. Jay, I think the door tag should read "6310" for 63 classic (10 series). Isn't 50 series rebel or something? Wagons were 6381 (ambo) 6311? (classic) or some such. I've been wrong before... once, back in 1901. If going for the original look you'd would probably want to use vinyl trimed covers on the tops and sides with a brocade insert. My brother had is Marlin done this way and it is teal interior, looks sweet and original. If your in the sun belt you may want to ask for a Marine grade vinyl. My brothers Marliin has that too. It's a little thicker and harder to work, but has some UV treatments and lasts longer. It was the only stuff they could find in the teal. -- Mark Price Morgantown, WV 1969 AMC Rambler, 4.0L, EFI, T-5 " I was different before people dared to be different" -------------- next part -------------- An embedded message was scrubbed...
