I think the spacer, while it at least helps heat-insulate the
carb (a minor but dubious improvement, you have to ask why it's
too hot in the first place) will do zero harm (that I've ever
heard of, other than possible linkage and hood-clearance issues).

Points have their followers, and are original, and interesting
in their quaint way, and work fine on the street on mild motors
and with frequent maintenance, but modern electronic ignitions
are super reliable and will provide spark at RPMs points can't
even think of, 'cept 'xotic dual point setups which definitely
have a high Cool Factor.
