" theres also a Fiero out there that the guy built and drives year round in cold and warm weather in the midwest IIRC. He uses electric battery blankets in cold weather to warm the batteries and get extra mileage. I found it interesting that the reisistance heater blankets turned out to provide a positive return in allowing a range increase. I would have thought the trade off would have been negative against the blankets?

the capacity/temperature curve is pretty steep. a small heater drain
could gain you substantial usable capacity.

there's an old trick to help starting in very cold weather: turn the
headlights on for a while first. their drain self-heats the battery,
increasing its current-discharge capacity...

" Another thing I have wondered. Is it safe to park and electric car inside a garage when charging it? How many batteries charging does it take ot build enough gases to cause worry? Plus even if it does not reach critical mass, is it healthy in the garage attached to or in the basement of a house?

i wonder if the outgassing might be affected by the amount of charging
or overcharging, and the sophistication of the charger? but maybe if
you want -fast- charging you can't avoid gas generation completely.

i agree, if there are any sulfuric acid vapors you'll smell them
toute suite! and you -really- want to get rid of them, because
they're corrosive. barring ignition sources, h2 and o2 are harmless.
