[Amc-list] Re; York Compressors and Clutches

Yuh But!
My cars came with Yorks, junk yards are full of Yorks and
I do not have to run out and buy anything except another
junk yard compressor (at the present time) and conversions
to R134 have been successful when done with no problems.
Now with that remember, it has already hit 100 degrees
here, if the A/C ain't working it gets fixed immediately and
for all practical concerns, what came with the car works
including the hoses and R134 works better than Freon
when the temperature gets into the low triple digits.
It has not been an expensive proposition changing the
ends on a hose if it has been necessary.
But I agree, if purchasing for a retrofit was part of the
equation, it would be smart to purchase current technology
stuff if you are going to spend serious money.
But for the time being, I have had good luck with the
"if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
It saves the budget so I can spend it in some other area.
(The one single exception being that I blew up the
compressor in my Spirit 3 days before I left to the AMO
nationals in 1999)
John.
