[Amc-list] amc 304 years

Mid 71 was the last of the high compression cars. The 72 will be around
8:1, maybe 8.5. But you've got the right idea -- the heads flow just as
good as the higher compression heads. Just get the pistons you need for
the compression you want. You might have trouble finding anything but
stock replacement 304 pistons though, unless you go to custom forged
slugs.

You might want to look around for a Ford 302 EFI system. That would be
nice on the 304. If you don't want to worry with machine work on the
intake or replacing it with an EFI ready intake, look for CFI (Central
Fuel Injection -- Ford's TBI) models. Those would be 82-87 or so. Look
in T-birds, Cougars, and Lincolns. A few Mustangs used it, and some
trucks, but most trucks still used a feedback carb. A GM TBI system from
a 305 should work well also -- about the same years. The Ford system
should be more adaptable -- the AMC Motorcraft distributor can be
modified with the Ford EFI distributor parts. Just a thought!
