Re: [Amc-list] AMC Spare

Subject: One 15x7 Torque Thrust D wheel needed (any condition)

My Rambler has four Torque Thrust D's, and I'm looking for one
more for the spare tire. 15x7 5x4.5" pattern. Anyone got just
one? Even not-so-great looking? Missing center cap is fine.
-------------------------

Having a full-size spare can be handy, but I've rarely needed a spare.
For that reason I carry a "donut" spare from a Jeep Cherokee. It's a 16"
wheel/tire, so it's just about as tall as a standard 15". One from a
Ford Crown Vic or Lincoln Town Car works well also.

It's a problem for me now though! I have 5x4.5" front wheels, 5x4.75"
rear (due to the Jaguar rear axle). The wheels I run (Weld Drag Lites)
have dual patterns, so no problem there. The spare is 5x4.5" though. If
I get a flat on the rear I'll have to change a front tire first! Since a
flat is a rare occurrence nowadays, it's not a big deal.

I've considered getting a narrow Drag Lite wheel (they are available in
the widest range of widths and backsets of any wheel I know of) and
using an old model VW bug tire on it though. That would give me a tall,
narrow, light weight spare that will fit either end. Drag Lite wheels
are very light weight -- I could easily carry the four in boxes when
they arrived. They don't take much abuse though -- hit a curb and the
edges bend fairly easy! No need to ask how I know, is there??
