Rod knock, timing cover missing? You need to shop around! A new timing
cover will set you back about $200-300. At best you likely need to have
at least one rod resized and the crank turned down, at worst the crank
and at least 
one rod are trashed and both will need replacing. Better to spend more
on a better choice. This is a rebuilder at best, and will need a
complete overhaul. You'll have over $1500 in it with a new timing cover
and crank, and just for a bone stock rebuild (well, you could go better
with the cam, but will need to keep the stock intake and carb for that
price)!

so,a wrecking yard here in town just got in a 79
cherokee with a 360. he wants 250 for the engine. it
smokes and knocks after running for a short time.
someone in springfield mo said he had a 304 i could
get from him. but i havent heard from him for a while.
is that to much to pay for a 360 that knocks and
smokes? he said it was a lower end knock but not real
bad. the front timing cover is gone. open to opinions.
