I got this wrong before, in this list! Yes, it's a 150T + OD!
Sheesh! I need to make a written inventory rather than going
by memory. Plus a multi-pattern bell (probably common then).

I have a plain T14 and 60's six bell, ordinary enough, next to
it, I guess how I confused it.

I may ask you about that bell sometime soon... :-)

Hmm well try this: perform your test twice. Once with the
hammer head pointing forward, and once again with it pointing
backwards. Compare results.

two dents in the floor Tom - ~!

some 'concepts' - cars & aircraft - seem good,
in narrow applications they are - street apps.
is a whole 'nuther world of bad road angles,
oil sweat pavement and many, many, stupid
drivers.........

front engined cars will let you know ahead of
time when you're at a traction limit - you can
kick the rear end out to correct perhaps - unless
you're running a '56 Golden Hawk with the
352 PACKARD 'boat-anchor' up front stuffed in
the Studebaker 'rubber-frame'.........

with this car - the condition of
'Snow-Plowing' thru curves was
coined - nose would wash out as
the rear lifted - and swung.......
while seeking traction on the white
wall portion of the side walls........fun....!

the PORSCHE 914 mid engined was OK with
the 4cyl. 2.0 yet as weight went up with the
914/6 GT , the Factory added 'Fender Flares' to
accommodate the wider rims on the Performance
versions - but they saw the writing on the wall
as to their current technology and what could
be 'death ride for cutie' .

they hung into curves until they let go - without
much warning and not many techniques could
recover control once lost - rear didn't swing out
as much as you left the road pancaking sideways.

the WW-II AirCobra mid engined fighter was
hated by American Pilots - so we sent them
to the Russians....that should tell you something.

plane did not handle well at all beyond a ground
attack aircraft. saw one pilot gesturing the handling
to a group - yaw & pitch body language was terrifying
to anyone who has flown.

Rear engined Formula 1 cars of the 60s were
designed for that long wide oval track -

check the amount of 'squat' they dialed into
that IRS coupled with humongous at that time
tyre widths just to stay glued. That era had
the most dramatic wrecks of most racing history.

Current V-12 Ferraris' , have a habit of lifting their
front suspensions over small road irregularities
at slower speeds and ending up in store fronts
- European Racing - seen a few film clips featuring this 'Option'.

Moms' 356 did this to me during some spirited back road
rallying against a TR Spitfire - tyres finally bit as I headed
into the Apple Orchard - didn't wrap the car up that afternoon.

I liked your original concept of an early Track Roadster with
the Navarro 6 - I'm sure all that plumbing could be arranged
for a high 'drool factor' eye candy without fogging up your
goggles.

A tandem seating cigar style Roadster with the short wind screens
& pop up baby carriage style 'convertible' roofing for those
sudden storm situations is taking up room on my sketch pad.

I live in a dirt track racing area - going to do some digging
on frames once I settle on the 60s' race body shell I want to copy.

Soap box Derby Revisited :)

Yeah, point(s) taken. I'll repeat this: I ain't racing.

But...

... back we go. Seriously, even a dead-boring model A rails/beam
axle/ T-bucket with AMC driveline would be interesting. With a
six, even old style, and light, cheap to build and fun to drive.
And I would love a narrow body w/track roadster and AMC six.

I hadn't seriously considered that, partly because it's really
unlikely I'm going to fabricate my own body (steel or glas).
I'm going to have to buy scrounge or find.

Subject: [AMC-List] 390 & 4 spd Trans - How much does it weigh?

I'm considering buying a complete 390 from carb to pan with a
complete
T-10 Trans & shifter including clutch & bellhousing. It has an alum
intake
and the heads are cast iron. I need to get an accurate weight to get
a
shipping quote. Any members ever shipped a package like this across
country?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Guess the gross shipping weight of this loaded engine and transmission???
Well, I betcha that it wil go pretty close to 750 pounds (maybe even with a
heavy oak skid under it...)

I still have some freight information posted at:
http://mysite.verizon.net/res79g4m/fcs/fcsystem.html then look at the
"shipping information" item on the menu. It might give you an idea of the
basis that motor carriers charge you.

It depends on where you are shipping from and to as to what carrier you will
have to choose from for hauling this. Pick one that goes direct for the
best service and least handling and best results, generally. They will
charge you on basis of per cwt at actual weight.

Trucking rates are very high... but they have discounts for good customers.
It would be nice to be working for or be well acquainted with a firm that is
a good customer and has a good discount pricing arrangement set up with the
carrier and you can maybe arrange with the company to have them shown as
consignee and shipped at a good discount and you can either pay the freight
bill or reimburse them for the freight charges. It they don't want to
accept delivery at their place of business perhaps you can make arrangement
to pick it up from their freight dock.

Trucking LTL (small shipment) rates are so inflated now that they often
discount the rates by as much at 75 to 80% now. Ridiculous, huh? And every
carrier has his own rates altough many of them are competitive with one
another.

Many carriers have on line rates information that you can check for yourself
at their web sites. They may well have some restrictions on handling this,
also. The will likely require all fluids to be drained and be rigidly
strapped or banded to a good skid and all protruding parts removed and
bundled to the skid or shipped in separate boxes, etc...
