I have a good working AMC radio for sale that I picked up at a yard sale
from a former AMC dealer. I believe it is for an early 80s Concord/Eagle and
maybe other models. Can anyone identify the cars it fits? It has no model
number on the label. it just says it is for American Motors and is built by
Chrysler Corporation. it looks a lot like one I had in my 81 Concord. It
has speaker outlets for 2 fronts and 2 rears. The stereo lights up and is
green in the upper RH corner of the dial.
If anyone on the list is interested in buying it, contact me off list and I
will send you a photo of the radio by email.

Well, my wagon is continuing it's tradition of fighting me whenever it can.
I took it to a show last weekend that was a little over 100 miles away and
it ran great on the highway but wouldn't idle at all. I chalked it up to
junk in the carburetor so when I got back, I ordered a carb rebuild kit. I
took the carburetor apart and cleaned it all up (there was a lot of trash
in it) and put it back together today. The car started up okay, ran great
for about 10 seconds and died. When I tried to restart it, fuel came out of
the vent tube. My first try at fixing this was to re-install the old needle
valve which didn't help. I also re-checked the float level (twice) and it's
okay according to the rebuilt kit instructions and I also snugged up the
metering block but I'm still having the same problem. The carburetor is a
Holley model 1931.
Any ideas where I went wrong?
Thanks,
Matt

Wanted: Core bumpers for replating. If your going to the AMO nationals and
have a few extra core bumpers you would like to get rid of I will be buying
cores at Ohio. I specifically need 68-74 Javelin/AMX rears (two or three),
68-69 Javelin fronts (one or two), a 70 rebel front and rear, a rambler
american front and rear 66-69. The better the core the more I'm willing to
pay for it. Cannot take cores that have deep rust on the reverse,
substantial dents, or rips in the metal. So like I said, If you want some
extra spending cash and want to clean up the garage by getting rid of a few
extra cores, bring them to Ohio. Contact me if you have any questions.

Well, it appears that the problem was with the 750
Carter . I swapped it out with my 600 Edelbrock and
it's running just great.
I purchased the 750 cause I was told the 600 would
not be enough for the 401. Where will I see a
difference? It seemed to pull great off the line up
to 70-80 when I backed off. I don't have any
experience with an engine like this (304 was biggest I
ever had before). Thanks.
Marty

This is the NASCAR version, there is also a Adam 12 version, seems harder to
find, both run on real gas, great addition for someone's collection, and
seldom seen:

Went to a free show & shine and cruise 20 miles or so from home today
with the Matador.....turns out that I was not the only AMC there as per
usual as a very nice recently restored 55 AMC Hudson 2dr HT showed up
too.......also; turns out that he only lives 6 blocks or so from
me.........so should see a lot more of it...........
Off to the NW AMC Show at Ocean Shores Washington next weekend......

International used AMC engines in some of their applications. I have
seen 401s, 304's and some I-6 engines. They were painted red.

SNIP
However there is absolutely no relationship between the 400 cubic Inch
International engine and the 401 AMC engine. There are no parts that
will interchange at all.
If you can find an AMC 401 in an International Vehicle you can use the
crank shaft from it. However if you find an AMC 401 cubic inch engine in
an International Vehicle you can use the whole engine.

My question: My neighbor has a 76 Hornet with a three speed manual. I
have a T5 from a Spirit. Can we make the swap? Are the bolt patterns
the
same, etc. etc.
Keith Woodcock
SNIP
Maybe, yes or no! How's that for being specific.
If the T5 is from a 4 cylinder Spirit, No!
However if it is a 4 cylinder Spirit T5 and you have the bell housing,
you can use that to install a small block Chevy V8 but it would probably
grenade the transmission.
If The T5 is from an I-6 and you have the bell housing it is pretty much
a bolt in on the Hornet. You would have to make a hole in the floor
board and fabricate a rear transmission mount and deal with the
speedometer drive. If you do not have the bell housing it is another
story.
Option 1, find a sr4, T4 or T5 equipped donor car and use the bell
housing and anything else that you can unbolt. This of course means that
you are looking for an I-6 or V8 donor car. No I-4 cars.
Option 2, maybe you are going to be lucky enough to discover that Hornet
is using a Multi-bell bell housing which you can then use to bolt up the
T-5 to the Hornet motor.
In either case you will need a clutch disc. with the proper number of
spines on it, a pilot bearing to fit the T5, a properly sized input
bearing retainer for the multi-bell bell housing application and still
make a rear transmission mount, deal with the speedometer cable and
drive shaft issues.
It is not difficult, it just takes a bit of work.
John.
