I have heard about this so called painless dent removal and wonder if
anyone has had any experience with this kind of repair? I have a small
dent in the hatch on my orange car near the trunk lock that the paint is
not marred or broken just dented. It is near the trunk lock and is
accessible if the locking mechanism in the hatch is removed. I'd like to
see if one of these guys can fix it so I can preserve the original paint
since it is so nice on the car.
"Doc"

Doc,
I've used a guy in my area to take out some parking lot rash on a couple of different cars.
He does an absolutely remarkable job. The dents have disappeared so that I cannot find where they were. On one car, he took out 4 dents for $75.
Keep in mind that these were small dents that didn't have any creased metal and as with all these type of things are subject to the skill level of the individual.
Talk to your local used car dealer to find out who they use and if they're happy, I expect you will too.

Anyone know where I can get some rocker panel molding clips. Universal
ones used to be available from Dormans that I have used in the past for
different withe moldings but as is my usual luck with this car when I
tried to buy them I found that they were no longer available. I have
some I bought 5-6 years ago but don't know if I have enough of them. I
have to remove and modify the stainless rocker moldings on the car to
install the 77 AMX flairs and they also need a good polishing. Also the
recessed area that is painted black the paint is worn off and I plan on
painting that area orange to match the car.
"Doc"

Doc,
I can get some round rocker moulding clips that were factory original on the 70 AMX. They snap on the Weld Studs that the 70 AMX had at the time. Don't know if the 77 is the same but I can send you a picture and the measurements.

i came across a t86 tranny with a borg warner overdrive unit, torque tube mount and all. how hard would it be to shorten my torque tube to fit this set up, or would i even have to cause if i remeber right, i have a long tail shaft on my transmission, and i see this overdrive unit taking up where my long tail shaft is. did they put that long tail shaft on the back of none overdrive units so they could use the same torque tube set up? if not, would i be able to cut a section of the torque tube out, reweld it and shorten the driveshaft? i have a triangulated 4 link for the rear now so the torque tube will not be stressed so cutting and welding shouldnt be a problem would it? thanks

I sadly just received a phone call from Jodi, Steve Schall's daughter,
telling me he passed away. A lot of AMC'ers knew Steve and the famous red
AMX convertible he built along with many other AMC's & Jeeps and Steve
was always the type of person you could talk to and enjoy. I considered
Steve my best friend and will truly miss him. Jody will let me know
tomorrow when his wake and funeral will be and I will let all of you
know.

OK, please read before you respond as the header is a
little cryptic.

I am putting an 86 360 in my 73 Commando. When I sold
the original 304 out of the Commando, I did not have
time to keep the 3 hole balancer that came on it.

So, will the flywheel that came off the 304 with the
three bolt balancer be balanced OK with the 360 4 bolt
balancer?

If it is just a matter of comparing part numbers, what
is the proper part number for a 360 flywheel that will
work with the 4 hole balancer?

Thanks and have a great week,

Jesse

no.

with one exception i know of ['70-1 360 & 390], each displacement has
its own imbalance, thus its own flywheel. i'm not sure about the
balancers but wouldn't be surprised to find likewise. i don't think
the number of holes has anything to do with that, only the pulley set.

there should be more detail in the archives...

i wouldn't be surprised if amc arranged all tranny +/- od setups to be
the same length - the t-96 had a -very- long tailshaft.

but -- doesn't the t-86 have a different nose from the t-96? iirc it
has a aquarer pattern, larger retainer, and longer 1 1/8" dia input
shaft. iirc frank searched for some time for the right bellhousing
for his 4.0 / '63 classic, before giving up and going auto.

AMC V8 engines are externally balanced and depend on the fly wheel or
flex plate matched to the displacement of the engine and in some cases
the application as to what transmission it will be mated to along with
the harmonic balancer (Damper).
With the exception of the previously pointed out '70 360/390 application
each engine size will have its own unique flywheel and harmonic balancer
(damper) applications.

As far as I know on a given displacement the 3 or 4 hole damper is
unique to the pulley configuration used only, if you have the need for
one or the other you can purchase or find the appropriate number of
holes for a pulley from the same displacement engine.
As far as I know despite nuances in OEM fly wheel part numbers that may
be seen from year to year you can swap any same displacement fly wheel
from engine to engine with out a functional problem. The same goes for
harmonic balancers (Dampers).

If you want to replace the points iginition you can
use a Pertronix ignitor setup. It will cost about $70
from most sources and will take the place of points
and fits inside your existing Delco distributor.

For other "wear" parts like brakes you can go to any
of the major chain vendors for many parts. Or order
from the web from their web sites or from sites like
www.rockauto.com.

You should know that this list is open to anyone with
an interest in AMC cars, but it is common courtesy to
sign each post so a responder knows who to whom to

"

there's the pertronix ignitor; if you have a delco dist get one for a
chevy six.

" i was wondering is anyone knew what i could do for
" that swap in my rambler cause i was hoping to get the
" parts this coming week and get a tune up done and get

imho a better solution is a '75-9 or so hei dist from a chevy 250 or
292; if you swap drive gears from your present dist it'll drop right
in. use chevy hei wires and open your plug gap to .045-.050.
especially from a yard, this might not cost you much more than the
pertronix and maybe even less - and you can get parts for it
everywhere.
two notes:
1. surprisingly, many 250/292 hei do not have the familiar coil in the
cap. the one i have does though, and it may only be a question of
caps.
2. it needs 12v all the time, so if your car is '68-newer you need to
bypass the resistance wire in the coil run. easiest is to splice the
coil into the yellow wire at the volt reg.

" but what i can figure out from eddies listing on the
" planet huston amx site my vin i think the car coame

the 7th char in the vin tells all. a=199, b=232. an engine code is
also stamped on the block on a pad by the dist.  a J in it means 199;
L = 232.

if you have a '68-9 with a fully synchro 3sp, it's a 232. that tranny
was not offered with 199s.

Eh, usually I would let the Mopar people easily figger this one out
theyselves, them sort of smart folks. But this scam auction is listed as a
AMC. When you click on it, the scammers have written script into the auction
and suddenly you are looking at a beautiful, ok, a good looking General Lee

If you are lucky enough to go view this before ebay and yahho.com shut it

A rehash originally From: "Billy" billycarl1234@xxxxxxxxxxx

A man goes out and buys a fresh AMX .

One night he takes it out for a spin, and stops at a red light.
An old man pulls up next to him riding a mo-ped.

The old man looks over the Coupe and says, "What kind of
car ya got there sonny?"

The man replies, "It's a 1970, the best sports car in the USA; it
cost me over $50,000."

"That's a lot of money" says the old man. Why do they cost so much?"
The
man answers, "Because they can go 170 miles an hour!"

The old man pokes his head in the window and looks around.

Leaning back on his mo-ped, the old man says, "That's a pretty nice
car all right!"

Just then the light changes, so the guy decides to show the old man
what the car can do. He floors it, and in a few seconds the speedo
reads 120 MPH.

Suddenly he notices a dot in his rear view mirror that seems to be
catching up to him. Afraid it might be a cop, he slows down to 65 and
suddenly whhhoooosshh! Something whips by him going much faster!

"What on earth could be going faster than this 390?" the man asks
himself.

Then, ahead of him, he sees a dot coming towards him.
Whhoooosshh! It goes by again, heading the opposite direction!
And it sorta looked like the old man on the mo-ped!

"Couldn't be," thinks the guy. "How could a mo-ped outrun an 390?"

Then again he sees a dot in his rear view mirror! Whhooosshh - Blam!
It plows into the back of the AMX! The man jumps out.

 It IS the old man!

Of course, the mo-ped and the old man are in a world of hurt. The
guy runs up to the old man and cries, "You're hurt bad! Is there
anything I can do for you?"

The old man groans and replies,
"Yes, could you please unhook my
suspenders from your side mirror?"
