i don't think so.  my '68 tsm says pressure should be 700 +/- 35 on
vane pumps [i6] and 1050 +/- 50 on roll pumps [v8], so you're right in
there.

Pump pressure is different on V8 vs six cylinder pumps but the boxes are also different. I'm not bothering to look (which means I may be wrong) but I think the TSM also points out that mixing the pumps and gears can cause damage. Since even 1000 PSI seems to me unlikely to damage the metal parts (unless there's some thing stuff in the box), I'm guessing that the damage would be to the seals.

Mark -- I think you need to get a V8 steering gear box.
