*Not* a good idea. Cutting a coil from the spring is the only *safe* way I know of to lower a car as you want to do. I'd recommend finding another set of springs to hack on or maybe find some 6-cylinder Hornet springs (which would be softer and let the front end drop a bit). 
And, if you do cut a coil, make sure the spring is properly seated, otherwise it might shift and pop out of place.
