A: The bolt pattern on 4 cyl Jeeps (that are newer than Willys) are Chev V8 till '83, then Chev 60 degree V6 (2.8L and AMC 2.54L used in XJs, MJs, newer YJ's and TJs share that pattern) To: mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Tue, 22 Feb 2005 12:17:23 -0600 Subject: American trans swap Message-ID: <20050222.122026.320.51.akjamc@xxxxxxxx> From: Andre K Jacobs <akjamc@xxxxxxxx> OK, best if you friend calls me, Typing and all are not my gig. The bell hosing patterns are the same, BUT the housings are NOT. The 196 starter in moved in . The196 has a basic 90, block- to pan rail set up with little material angled out. The 199-232 DON'T, and the starter will not bolt up. 1st hand experience here, I put a 232 in to a 64 with a flat head 196, I put the trans in twice because of this! There are small housings in the Jeeps too, I don't know much about it, just saw one in a 4 cyl postal in a junk yard. Remember that one Fred? Andre " A.J."
