There's a bag company out that advertises that their bags "do not change diameter" I can't remember which one it is though. The Firestone bags will expand in all directions when inflated. Narrow bags that don't expand could likely be found for Americans and Javelin/AMX's if you don't buy cheap bags.
It would be fairly easy to build a mounting plate for the top of the trunnion on the small car trunions. just a cup that would sit over the trunion. You could even offset it slightly toward the inner fender if needed. As far as bag diameters, now that may be the killer. I haven't looked to see how narrow they come.
