Hi, My son's 75 Gremlin hasa 258/auto. Someone had shoehorned a sparkgap distributor into it and when buying a reman one locally, there came an issue: The listed cap doesn't sit as it should. It moves sideways and the clips to hold it down are too long. Before I try anything else, I thought I would see if anyone knew anything. I will try contacting the rebuilder on monday and see if the cap should be different (lists Borg/stewart C-190 or NAPA Ecklin MO-40). Or is there supposed to be a spacer/dustcover/gasket that fits between the distributor and the cap? I don't have the original, so don't have anything to compare it to. My son didn't buy it from a person who he can return it to (doesn't want to anyway) and it wasn't smoggable. California still says 74 and newer have to be smogged, this inspite of the 25yr rule that was passed but never enacted. Supposedly they are working on a 30 year rule now, but I haven't seen anything official. Managed to mate up a air manifold by bending tubing and using an amc one that I think might have been for either a different year, or a 232. Don't really know, the original was missing. Also it has a holley 1b that i think is for a later engine. I did a rebuild kit on it and it seems to be ok. I still have to jb weld a break were my braze didn't hold during assembly. I only need to get this to work for a year or two then we will see. Long term plans are for a new paint job (green and very much needing it). new carpeting and door and window gaskets. Also different seats. I am spoiled by reclining buckets and think some toyota's should work. The original (split bench) is being held together by duct tape (yech). Well got to go and study. Back to school at 45, getting Windows 2000 network certified. Thanks for any response, whatever help you can give will be appreciated. Ken
