Hi All, Hey Bart - seems kind of brave of Paul to "challenge" us EH? Anyway, here goes my Gremlin story - short form. I've been the owner of "Kermit" for over 21 years -over just over 1/2 of my life! He is a 1974 Gremlin X factory v8 car. I bought him for $1000 in 1979 from someone who thought the trans was toast and wanted to sell it. Who's going to listen to a 20 year old if he was to tell them that it was just low on fluid? So I didn't and took him home. At the time I had a 1975 Matador coupe with my well built 304 in it - but she was crunched by a stoned driver (not me) and totaled,so I settled with the insurance co. and kept the car. Anyway - Kermit was my daily driver for a year until it came time for the transformation. Out went the stock 304 - in went the good motor,a 727 with all "Hemi Torqflite" guts and 3500 stall convertor, the entire disc brake set up from the Matador, police package front springs for a Matador wagon and 7 leaf rear springs with big sway bars front and rear. The Dana rear got a posi unit and off we went. Three rear diffs and one complete housing later we went to the Ford 9" with the Strange engineering axles and trac-lock diff. For looks he got a 77 Hornet front clip and GM blaze red paint. If you're wondering how he got named Kermit - I didn't name him,he was named by a friend of mine I firmly beat in his vette motor Z28 - He said it looked like a frog when it hit 2nd gear at about 7k and passed him like he hit the brakes. OK - I got a little long - But we are talking about 20 years of history here! Anyway - the 401 is on the stand going together to go in for the next 20 years - I hope that I have at least as much fun as I did the first 20. BTW - The Hot Rod article that said that no one got any in a Gremlin is BOOCHIIT! Lots more room w/o back seat!----------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------Vik Butvila
